The big day

What a superb day – a perfect demonstration of the themes for TEDxMelbourne: community and youth.

TEDxMelbourne came together because of our strong belief in the value of sharing “ideas worth spreading”. Those ideas that engage, inspire, enable and motivate us to be creative, show our genius and connect to our own and each other’s humanity – helping us all to create a new and better world.

On Saturday 20 November, we had over 300 people join us for TEDxMelbourne at the State Library of Victoria. Hundreds more joined us online watching our livestreaming video and live blog with Viocorp, interacting via twitter, and jumping in to the Exit Reality virtual 3D experience – from around Australia and across the globe in places like Boston, Mexico City, Dhaka and Johannesburg.

There was singing, dancing, musical and comedy performances in the TEDxMelbourne Experimedia Experience – hosted by the fabulous Troy and Zara Swindells-Grose. We also spoke to many of the attendees and some of the speakers and performers, Simon Taylor and Hayden Hood capturing some of their thoughts and feelings on video (check out the TEDxMelbourne YouTube channel).

There’s more to come

Over the next week, we’ll be posting more photos, videos and links to blog posts. If you have any pics from the day, please add them to the TEDxMelbourne flickr group or tag us on Facebook, and email us with links to any blog posts you’ve written. If you’re signed up to our email list we’ll also let you know as soon as our speaker videos and presentations are available (likely in the next couple of weeks). To see all our event photos on Flickr, check out our Flick photos

To stay in touch you can also join us on the TEDxMelbourne facebook page, follow @TEDxMelbourne on twitter and subscribe to the TEDxMelbourne blog. If you want to connect with others that were there on the day (or add your details) check out Lanyrd, which will also have link to other TEDxMelbourne coverage.

Thank you

Finally, a big thank you to all of our speakers and performers who gave us food for thought and action. To Hamish Curry and the team from the State Library of Victoria, thank you for all of your hard work co-creating the TEDxMelbourne experience. To our sponsors, your support is invaluable, we hope to have you on board for TEDxMelbourne in 2011 – with plans in the works already, it’s bound to be bigger and better.

To the TEDxMelbourne crew of volunteers – you are amazing. Your generosity of time, effort and spirit are what made the day happen. Special thanks to Troy and Zara Swindells-Grose from Humour Australia for hosting the TEDxMelbourne Experimedia Experience and Simon Taylor for being our online host all day – you all rock! Most of all, congratulations to Rod Sherwin and Jon Yeo for pulling together a very special day.

Stay tuned – more great stuff on it’s way…
