TEDxMelbourne 2018: The Great Unknown

In looking for a theme for this year’s TEDxMelbourne main event, we were intrigued by the thought of humans being both excited and scared about the future.  That although we can make plans, we really don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow – next week – next year. In ten years time. Life is an unknown and we can embrace it with enthusiasm …. Or dread.  It’s entirely up to us.

As the TEDxMelbourne team talked through our own thoughts on what the Great Unknown meant and how each of us could navigate it, Dean (our Head of Partnerships) said he believed it was about knowing your past, to understand your future.  We loved this concept as it tapped into something many people struggle with.   Does my past define me now – and into the future – or can I escape my history and culture to redefine my life?

We discussed our own lives and heritage … all very different from each other.  Nationalities, working classes, education levels, family upbringing, relationship status … none of us held the same history or beliefs … however we did have one thing in common.   A shared passion for learning, ideas and engaging conversation.

Which is we love the TEDxMelbourne community.

We invite you to think about your own history, patterns and belief systems as you join us for The Great Unknown. Contemplate how and why your life is where it is today, because of your past …. but also consider what your future looks like because of what you do today.
